Beginnings of my Bôite-en-Valise

I loved making small things, because they are portable and intimate, and demand focus and attention. I would often make a replica of what I’ve already made, as a drawing, or in the same material. As someone who travels often, I love the idea of being able to carry a whole oeuvre in a bag or pocket.

I first saw Marcel Duchamp’s Bôite-en-Valise at the Peggy Guggenheim Collection in Venice, not knowing it was the first of its kind. I was obsessed, and tried to look for every existing replica. I wrote my thesis on miniatures, carriers and Duchamp’s replicas. I loved that he made a copy of all his existing oeuvres.

These are the beginnings of my own Bôite-en-Valise, a sort of dollhouse opening up and carrying all my works in miniature.
